Three million trees by 2030 around the city of Milan. This is the objective of the project that bears the name of Forestami, born on the initiative of the Municipality of Milan and the Metropolitan City. Already identified 253 new areas suitable for planting trees, which will cover an area of 713 hectares. The first plantings will start from November 2020.
“The goal is to reach three million trees in the entire metropolitan area in 2030 – announced the mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala – there can be no green revolution if we do not continue to support projects like this”. Milan actually had already started planting new specimens already in the Covid period, during which about 76,577 had already been planted.
Of the 253 areas identified for the new plantings, 110 will be used for the construction and implementation of green areas and urban parks, 82 for the construction of new forests and wooded areas. The rest, however, will be dedicated to the planting of trees in areas bordering schools, sports centers and parishes.
The forestation projects, which concern the metropolitan areas of Milan, will affect the 24 municipalities of: Abbiategrasso, Cesano Boscone, Carpiano, Colturano, Cornaredo, Gaggiano, Locate di Triulzi, Melegnano, Melzo, Paullo, San Zenone al Lambro, Segrate, Trezzano sul Naviglio, Vimodrone, Vizzolo Predabissi, Basiano, Cambiago, Carugate, Corsico, Gudo Visconti, Masate, Pioltello, Rho and Settimo Milanese.
